In perfect conditions, Rainey II welcomed Queens II to Hatrick Park on Saturday. They had the better of the early exchanges, with No8 Bell and centre Kearns prominent in drives for the line, before out-half Pollock slotted over a penalty to open the scoring.

Rainey II entertained Lurgan in the Town’s cup at Hatrick Park, a fixture which last occurred 30 years ago in 1993.  While Rainey ran out winners that day, the situation was drastically reversed last weekend as the Lurgan men ran out 17-47 winners.

Rainey II travelled to the Palace Grounds in Armagh to face one of the toughest opposition setups they will face all season.  With a much-changed team, the Rainey side were on the wrong end of a 26-0 defeat, although the scoreline didn’t reflect the team’s performance.

After an impressive first performance last week against a strong Randalstown side, Rainey II had a tougher task this week, heading further down the M2 to face a much stronger Malone II side.  In bright sunny conditions perfect for running rugby, they went down 38-12, as the home side ran in six tries against two from the visitors.

Rainey II met Malone II in the league on Friday night under the lights at the Meadowbank Arena.  Although the home side raced into an early lead, they ultimately were lacking the strength in-depth to stay the course, eventually going down to a 10-26 score line.

In the first round of the Town’s Cup, Rainey II were well on their way to causing an upset over fancied opponent’s Ballynahinch, before the now all-too-common string of injuries in crucial positions saw them concede two converted tries in the final quarter, finally succumbing to a 17 – 30 defeat. An extensive Rainey injury list even saw Coach Stirling call upon Club Chairman Stevie Rutledge to lace-up his boots once more, and he rose to the task with aplomb.
