An inexperienced Rainey OB II side produced a marvellous display to defeat a fancied Ballyclare II team 36-19 at Hatrick Park.  With Ballyclare setting the pace in Qualifying 1, Rainey anticipated a stiff examination, but an outstanding first-half peformance took them to a great victory.

Try scorers for Rainey, who led 22-0 at the interval, were - centre A.Brown, prop D.McErlain, Prop T.Andrews, full-back C.Devlin, flanker C.Clarke and No8 E.Shaw.  Scrum-half Quinn added three conversions.

Outstanding for Rainey were forwards Shaw and Clarke, while young David McClelland did well in the centre.  A great result which should boost this very youthful squad.

Three tries in the first fifteen minutes helped Rainey OB II to a comfortable 32-19 home win against Bangor II. The visitors came back well, but Rainey finished the stronger to notch a bonus point with 32-19 success in Provincial 1.

Rainey OB II, coached by the evergreen Peter Boyle, have had a magnificent season.  Several young lads have been introduced to senior rugby as they have rattled up some big scores along the way.  After clinching Provincial League 2 in midweek at Rifle Park where they defeated Banbridge III by 25-8, they were at less than full throttle when they played Dromore II at Hatrick Park on Saturday.  It was a high-scoring encounter which Rainey won 33-27.   Defence was not on the agenda for this one.  Scorers were scrum-half M.Wilson, centre R.Sanderson, prop T.Andrews, wing A.Hunter, and centre M.Mulholland.  Full-back C.Devlin added four conversions.

Rainey Old Boys III

The Thirds had to beat neighbours Cookstown to make certain of winning their section of the Regional League.  After taking some time to settle, they got going to run out 65-5 winners.  Captain Phelim Trainor should be pleased with the commitment of his young squad who can only get better with further experience.  A word of praise should go to Richard McCrea and Kyle Kempton, the elder statesmen of the squad.  Their guidance and experience have proved invaluable.

Provincial League 2 17th February 2017

Scorers: Stewart(1*Try), Quinn(1*Try), Lloyd-Evans(1*Try, 2*Conv)

Rainey II discovered upon arrival at Gibson Park that, due to the cancellation of the Provincial League 2 contest between Grosvenor and Limavady, their opponents, Grosvenor II, would have a stronger than usual team on duty.  By the end of the first quarter, they were a beaten side and, although they competed much better in the second half, they were defeated 35-19.  They now lie second in Provincial League 2 behind Malone III, although they have 2 games in hand.
